“My inspiration always starts with the gemstones. Truly, the gemstones’ color, cut and size tell me where to go. It’s an extemporaneous effort. Metals are secondary to me, but still critical to design. My cocoon technique (where I wrap, in many ways, necklaces and bracelets with wires of individually strung metal and gemstone micro beads) is a signature technique that fascinates many of my clients.
When I see my jewelry displayed in a store, gallery or cruise ship, or I hear and see a woman gasp with pleasure as she tries on that special necklace, I can’t believe that the jewelry is mine, that I made something so beautiful, and I am glad to be alive.
A number of my clients say that my jewelry is like visual music – many instruments playing together to create one fabulous song. I wonder if they say that because they know that I am a singer? Fluidity and movement definitely characterize my jewelry, regardless of style. And it does seem that there is always one special piece that calls out to a woman, like a siren song. It’s a lovely phenomenon. My goals are very ambitious with regard to expanding and creating different AndreaGems collections based on new and unusual cuts of gemstones and combinations of metals and metal weaving. I look forward to the future as it unfolds before me, in brilliant hues of sparkling gems and precious metal.”
